Herbal preparations contain herbs from around the world but particularly from the British, European and North American traditions. Pharmaceutica
l drugs typically consist of a single chemical whereas herbal medicines contain hundreds of different plant chemicals that work together to gently stimulate and balance body functions without producing side effects.
Herbs may be taken in the form of a tincture (alcoholic extract), tea, syrup, capsules, tablets, powder and/or a cream, lotion or oil for external use.
Each preparation contains a mixture of herbs and is patient specific. Containers are clearly labelled with dosing instructions and a list of constituent herbs and are posted or delivered to the patient. Where appropriate, and with the patients consent, the practitioner can contact GPs to inform them of the herbal regime.
All herbal medicines are sourced from reputable, ethical suppliers with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) status guaranteeing a high and consistent level of quality.
In cases where nutritional supplementation is advised the practitioner will recommend the most suitable product(s), all of which are standardised and manufactured to the stringent pharmaceutical standards of GMP.
